    Recepção/ Reception

    Island Party in Paraty!


    Following our wedding ceremony on August 30th, 2025, our reception will be held at the Island Ilha Rasa, Paraty, RJ. . After the ceremony we will all go to the boat station - follow the music ;) - where the boat will leave at 3:30pm. The boat will leave from Cais de Paraty (directions below).


    Os noivos convidam para recepção no dia 30 de agosto de 2025, na Ilha Rasa, Paraty, RJ. Será a partir de 16h. Não vai perder, né? Logo apos a cerimonia, por favor se dirija ate o cais de onde o barco saira as 15h 30min.

    VISA RequirementS (for the Gringos)

    Starting April 2025 VISA is required for US, Canada and Australia citizens. If you are Latin American or European, you don't need to apply for a VISA.


    There is an e-visa option where you can apply online and acquire an e-visa which is easier or you can book an appointment at the consulate if you prefer.


    Based on Ian's experience he took around 1 hour on the application and it can take up to 2 weeks to receive your VISA by email, so I would recommend to start the process as soon as you can.

    What documents you will need:


    1) Create an account on the website

    2) VISA application form: https://bronline.vfsevisa.com/bra/en/on-boarding?_ga=2.129739915.662187465.1735412609-472636382.1735412609

    3) Passport (signed, valid up to end of Brazil trip, 2 visa pages free) for you eVISA application you will need a color scan of the bio page of your passport without any glare or fingers on it.

    4) Passport-style photo (Ian took his on his phone using an app)

    5) Pay $80.90 fee

    6) Additional documents will be requested once applying (probably they will ask a proof of income)

    Flights

    If you are flying from US to Brazil here are some options on where to fly and the airlines:


    Which cities should you fly to:


    1) Sao Paulo: airport GRU (Guarulhos airport)

    2) Rio de Janeiro: airport GIG (Galeao airport)


    We recommend to fly to Sao Paulo as the roads to Paraty are better and Sao Paulo is safer than Rio de Janeiro. But if you are planning on going to Rio de Janeiro to visit the Christ the redeemer, Pao de Acucar or Copacabana beach please always be careful around you when walking in the city.


    What airlines fly to Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro:


    The majority of the big airlines fly to Rio or Sao Paulo.


    These are the 3 I recommend and they usually have non-stop flights from big cities in US (like New York, Atlanta, Boston, Miami) - prices can range from $700 to $1,400 round trip:


    1) Latam/ Delta: Latam has a partnership with Delta so you can buy in Delta or Latam app.

    2) United Airlines

    3) American Airlines


    There are other smaller airlines for a cheaper price but they usually also have stops in some Latin America city - prices can range from $600 to $1,000:


    1) Gol

    2) Avianca

    3) Azul

    4) Copa airlines (usually stops in Panama)


    If you fly from US to Rio de Janeiro/ Sao Paulo with a layover in any city in Brazil you will need to go through customers in the first city in Brazil and check your bag again


    If you fly from US to Rio de Janeiro/ Sao Paulo with a layover within US you won't need to check your bag again

    How to travel from Rio/ Sao paulo to Paraty

    The only option to go from Rio de Janeiro/ Sao Paulo to Paraty is by car and it takes approximately 4hs to 6hs (depending if you take a bus, rent a car or hire a private company).


    *If you are traveling alone or in a small group and would like a car buddy from the Sao Paolo airport, reach out to Ian with your flight details.


    1) Option 1 (recommended): https://www.paratytours.com.br/en/transfers --> this is a company that offers transfers from the airport in Sao Paulo or Rio to Paraty. The company pick you up at the airport and drop you off in any hotel in Paraty (if staying in an airbnb you would need to choose the closest hotel in Paraty to be dropped off if you decide on the shared transfer). There are a few options:

    • Shared transfer (recommended when leaving Paraty): it is usually a pre determinate time to pick up and it can be shared with different people (up to 15 people) --> this is the cheapest option and one way cost around $70 from Sao Paulo and $60 from Rio de Janeiro per person.
    • Private car (recommended on the way to Paraty):
      • From Sao Paulo - Standard car ($225 Total up to 3 people) or Luxury car ($310 Total up to 3 people) one way
      • From Rio de Janeiro - Standard car ($165 Total up to 3 people) or Luxury car ($200 Total up to 3 people) one way

    2) Option 2: there is another private company from Angra dos Reis which is cheaper than paraty tours (Option 1). They don't have a website but to make reservation you can reach them by whatsapp: +55 24 999125971


    3) Option 3: rent a car - there are several companies renting cars at the airport, I wouldn't recommend this because the roads to Paraty can be trick if you don't have much experience travelling on narrow roads.


    4) Option 4: taking the bus - this is the cheapest option but you would need to take an uber from the airport to the bus station and the drive takes 6h to Paraty due to several stops.

    airbnb & hotel

    Aqui estao algumas dicas de airbnb, pousadas e localizacao que recomendamos durante a sua estadia.


    Local: recomendamos ficar no bairro centro historico (regiao destacada em vermelho no mapa abaixo), ja que o local do casamento sera nesta regiao. Outros locais que tambem recomendo sao: Cabore, portal de paraty, jabaquara (mas provavelmente precisariam de um carro para chegar ao local do casamento).


    Pousadas:

    Villas de Paraty - a pousada esta localizada no bairro cabore (15/20 minutos andando ate o centro historico). Para reservas entre em contato por:

    Here are some airbnb, hotels and locations we recommend for you. Please reach out to Ian and Mayumi directly if you have and questions :)


    Without a car: Whether you rent an airbnb or hotel room, we recommend looking in Centro Histórico de Paraty, Paraty - State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as the area is walkable. The general area is marked in red in the below screenshot. Staying outside of the historic district may require a car depending on the distance and neighborhood.


    With a car: You will have a bit more flexibility to stay outside of the historic district.



    Airbnb - our recommendation over a hotel:

    Search the following in Airbnb "Centro Histórico de Paraty, Paraty - State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil". The area marked in red in the screenshot above is prime real estate for walking.


    Hotels:

    *Villas de Paraty - This is owned by a family friend who will provide a discounted rate. They have a brewery and restaurant on site. To reserve, email or send a WhatsApp message to the following and tell them you are guests of Ian and Mayumi's wedding.

    • This is not in the Historic District. It is a 15-20 minute walk to the wedding ceremony.

    DRESS CODE

    Considerando que a cerimonia sera realizada na igreja e a festa sera na ilha, recomendamos o uso de traje social ou esporte fino. Como o casamento sera no mes de Agosto o clima pode estar um pouco frio especialmente a noite na ilha, por isso recomendo tambem levar algum casaco para a parte da noite.


    Homens: camisa social e terno

    Mulheres: vestido longo


    Apos a cerimonia teremos um cortejo com musica onde seguiremos caminhando ate o Cais de Turismo. Por causa das ruas de pedra recomendamos dar preferencia para saltos anabela e evitar saltos finos.


    Considering that the ceremony will be at the church and the reception at the island, we recommend to wear smart casual or formal attire. Please also be aware that August in Brazil is usually cold, around 65 F - 70 F, specially during the night in the island, so please consider bringing a jacket.


    Men: shirt and suit

    Women: long dress


    After the ceremony we will have a band to follow until the boat station where we will board to the island. It will be a short walk around 20min but because the stones in downtown make it hard to walk we recommend to not wear spike heel shoes.
